Balanced Wealth Group was founded by Matt Daugherty, Josh Harrell, and Matt Gottshall — but the roots go back further than the firm itself. Matt's grandfather, Harold "Doc", spent his career in financial services with a simple conviction: that hard work done with purpose is its own reward. Matt's father, Michael, carried that forward as an advisor in his own right by building client relationships on the belief that doing right by people isn't situational. It's just who you are.
Those two men shaped how Matt thinks about this work and ultimately – they shaped Balanced Wealth Group as a firm. Josh and the two Matts spent years inside the traditional broker-dealer world. What they saw gave them pause – a structure that, however well intentioned, put advisors and clients on opposite sides of the table. So they made a huge leap and left that world behind to build an independent RIA from the ground up. A firm where the only agenda in the room belongs to the client.
The six principles that guide how we work didn't come from a conference room. They grew out of the faith-based values that shaped Matt, Matt, and Josh long before they were advisors. Those values echo the same things Harold preached and Michael lived: show up with integrity, invest in people, and never lose sight of what actually matters.
That's the foundation we were built on. It's the one we practice every single day.

You’ve worked hard to get to this point, so lets make sure your financial life reflects that. Whether you are looking for clarity around your equity compensation, got hit with a tax bill you didn’t see coming, or simply making sure you are doing everything you should be, let’s start with a conversation. Tell us a bit about you, where you stand, why you’re reaching out now, and what is keeping you up at night.
